Recorded on SpecWithCode 1.0.47, 18 October 2026, added 19 October 2026. The current release is SpecWithCode 1.0.53.
Before you start: SpecWithCode on both Macs (the desktop app, or the npm package with Node.js 22.16 or later); Tailscale on both Macs, signed in to the same account, with MagicDNS and HTTPS certificates on.
Steps
- On the new Mac, open SpecWithCode. On How will you use this Mac, choose Join my existing machines.
- SpecWithCode checks that Tailscale is installed and signed in. Give this Mac the name your main machine will show, then choose Make the line.
- Copy the line. It works like a password, so paste it only on your main machine. Revoke this line cancels it.
- On your main machine, open Settings, Connections, paste the line under Add a machine and choose Add machine.
- When the Mac appears under Your private machines, choose Allow workers on its card. If it does not connect on its own, choose Connect machine first.
- Back on the new Mac, choose I pasted it and leave SpecWithCode running.
- Already set up the new Mac? Use Invite this machine under Settings, Connections. Without the desktop app, run
npm i -g specwithcode, specwithcode service installandspecwithcode fleet invite.

0:00 What you need
Add another Mac to SpecWithCode with one line. It takes about two minutes. The new Mac makes a line. Your main machine accepts it, over your private Tailscale network.
0:13 Join on the new Mac
On the new Mac, open SpecWithCode and choose Join my existing machines. SpecWithCode checks that Tailscale is connected. Give this Mac a name, then choose Make the line.
0:27 Copy the line
Copy the line. Treat it like a password: anyone with it can add this Mac. Once it's pasted on your main machine, choose I pasted it. This Mac is done. Leave SpecWithCode running, and finish on your main machine.
0:44 Add it on the main machine
On your main machine, open Settings, Connections, and paste the line into Add a machine.
0:52 Allow workers
When the Mac appears under Your private machines, choose Allow workers on its card. If it doesn't connect on its own, choose Connect machine first.
1:03 Already set up: Invite this machine
Already set up the new Mac? Use Invite this machine in Settings, Connections.
1:09 From a terminal: fleet invite
No desktop app? Install from npm. Run specwithcode service install to keep it running. Then run specwithcode fleet invite.
1:20 Recap
Join, make the line, add it, allow workers. That's it.
